"The only real correlation I see with religion is that the same traits exhibited by your naive religious person (the kind who doesn’t think critically about why they believe what they believe) is being exhibited by your average American, and our representatives are treating us accordingly."

I completely agree. I truly think that one of the biggest reasons our government seems so ineffective these days is because of the blind faith on strange issues that most Americans have.

I do think that there are a few religious nuts out there who equate health care reform to the apocalypse, but I don't think religion is the most prominent issue here.

I think the main thing is that most Americans have a very short attention-span when it comes to politics. When this year-long health care debate started, the majority of people wanted something passed within a few months so everyone could get on with there lives. But now, nearly a year later, the thing STILL hasn't been finished, everyone's had to hear nonstop, overblown bullsh** from the talking heads on TV, and all we hear from our representatives are meaningless talking points to help them get re-elected. Still, all this while, the average American hasn't learned a single thing about why insurance monopolies suck.
