For weeks, I’ve been prodding people to vote for this blog in the 2009 William Law X-Mormon Awards. Well, my incessant nagging paid off—we won! We won two Brodies! My post “Watching LDS General Conference so you don’t have to” was awarded “Best Humor Piece,” and we collectively won “Best New Blog.”
I was wandering around the blog administration backend, and I noticed that several new contributor accounts have been created (thanks Nick). We have guest bloggers!

♦ UofU’s SHIFT is bringing Austin Dacey, a former UN representative for the Center for Inquiry, to their campus to give a talk! So we thought we’d organize a carpool to go down there and support our fellows while enjoying a good speaker. The event starts promptly at 4pm on February 27, a Saturday. If you can provide rides or just want to tag along (and split gas :D ) please comment here or on Facebook with your status as a driver/rider.

Next Tuesday, October 27th, the documentary Collision: Is Christianity Good for the World? will be released. It follows noted atheist writer Christopher Hitchens and his rhetorical punching bag, Pastor Douglas Wilson. These two personalities have debated each other across the country, and the best of those debates have been distilled into this critically-acclaimed documentary.
I’ve ordered a copy of the documentary. If it gets here in time, we may watch it for next week’s social. I think it would make for a great joint event, as well—we could invite FOCUS, the Religious Studies Club, and the Philosophy Club. Yet another reason why this would make a great event is that I’m working on getting Hitchens to speak at USU next semester. This film may gin up some interest in and support for that effort.

Hello SHAFTers! I’d like to thank everyone who came to the Mountain Meadows Massacre discussion on Friday. If you are interested in seeing the rest of the PBS documentary “The Mormons” or if you missed the discussion and want to watch the chapter on the Mountain Meadows Massacre, you can watch the entire program online thanks to miracle of the series of tubes.

For those of you in the Logan area and who are attending SHAFT meeting regularly, many thanks. Now we have another favor to ask. As Paint the Street draws closer, we need to start thinking up ideas for a logo/quote/picture/something to put down in paint. If anybody think of something, let one of the officer’s know. If you want to draw up your design, even better. Bring it to a meeting, or give it to an officer as you see them wandering about campus. Thanks for your input, you guys, and I’m sure you’ll come up with something “inspiring”. ;)
