The USU SHAFT blog has been active now for two years; the first post was published August 13th, 2009. I want to thank all of you who have followed us from the beginning, and welcome those who have just recently stumbled upon our blog.
Despite my being less prolific as of late, the site still enjoyed increased traffic this year. And, like last year, we also won several Brodies (the Oscars of the Mormon/ex-Mormon blogosphere) for 2010: “Best News Reporting”, “Best LDS Church Watch”, and “Best Science Piece”. SHAFT has won a total of five Brodies, more than any other website.
Here are some of the site’s stats over two years of activity:
- 161,792 visits
- 273,608 pageviews
- Traffic sources: Reddit.com (30%), direct/none (19%), Google (14%), Facebook (14%)
- Average time on site: 2:30 minutes
- 399 posts
- Top content: Worst superhero partner ever, Why it’s probable we live in a simulated reality, BYU censors letters to the editor critical of Prop 8
- Viewed in 173 countries/territories (82% of the visits came from the US, and 39% of those from Utah)
And here are last year’s stats, for comparison.
Thank you once again for your continued support and readership! It has been difficult to maintain the blog this year with work and all, but I’ll do my best to update it at least once or twice a week. If you want to regularly write for us or contribute a guest post, please express your interest in the comments.
Let’s hope next year’s update reports similarly impressive growth. With your help, I trust it will.
Obligatory “LOL, 2 years of SHAFT” post
Everything time I see a blog birthday post, I panic and think that I missed Irresistible (dis)Grace’s birthday.
Maybe I should put it in my calendar.
Congrats, Jon. There’ve been some great SHAFT posts over the course of those two years and the readership stats are impressive.
A group of us is planning to fly into Utah for Sunstone next summer and it’d certainly be a treat if you were able to make an appearance.
I’d of course love to meet up with you! When exactly will you be here?
Time, date, etc. TBA but assembling a rowdy entourage is gonna be key.
Jon,
Congrats on two years, I know how hard it can be to keep going sometimes. I am still hoping to do a guest post, but I am ever surprised by how busy I am (and I hope you can forgive me for giving my own blog priority when I have some free time). Hopefully I can find sometime before school starts….If not, who knows when I could make it happen.
Congratulations — keep up the great work!!
p.s. As Chino says — I hope to see you at Sunstone!
