CFI launches “Campaign for Free Expression Video Contest”

The Center for Inquiry (of which SHAFT is an affiliate) just released a PSA to advertise their “Campaign for Free Expression Video Contest.”

CFI invites you to make a short video about the importance of free expression, upload it to YouTube, and tag it with “Campaign for Free Expression Video Contest” by September 30th, 2010. The top three winners will be announced that day and awarded a grand prize of $2,000 dollars.

About Jon Adams

I have my bachelors in sociology and political science, having recently graduated from Utah State University. I co-founded SHAFT, but have also been active in the College Democrats and the Religious Studies Club. I was born in Utah to a loving LDS family. I left Mormonism in high school after discovering some disconcerting facts about its history. Like many ex-Mormons, I am now an agnostic atheist. I am amenable to being wrong, however. So should you disagree with me about religion (or anything, really), please challenge me. I welcome and enjoy a respectful debate. I love life, and am thankful for those things and people that make life worth loving: my family, my friends, my dogs, German rock, etc. Contact: jon.earl.adams@gmail.com

  1. No disagreements here. The only thing I found funny about it was that all of the examples of suppressed speech from this CFI ad were examples of viewpoints your typical CFI members are quite sympathetic to (in some cases for good reasons, in other cases not). Would the video have the same impact with CFI members if the examples of suppressed speech were cases of suppressed religious speech? What if they were cases of intolerant speech that had been suppressed? Are we only interested in free speech when it is the viewpoints we hold dear in question?

By the way, my family welcomed a beautiful baby girl to the world today. Given her human nature, she is already striving toward her ownmost teleological end of human flourishing in moral and intellectual excellence, interpersonal communion, and relationship with the Transcendent. God be praised!!!
