LDS leader look-a-likes

In a post last month, I noted that Sam Harris bears an uncanny resemblance to Seth Green and Ben Stiller. Then later, while watching LDS General Conference, it dawned on me that I should think of some look-a-likes for Mormon leaders.

Here goes…

Thomas S. Monson and Senator Arlen Specter

M. Russell Ballard and Dave Thomas

Henry B. Eyring and the American Gothic farmer

Gordon B. Hinckley and Alan Greenspan

Boyd K. Packer and Donald Rumsfeld

Heber J. Grant and Sigmund Freud

Quentin L. Cook and Jason Alexander

Spencer W. Kimball and the Six Flags guy

Howard W. Hunter and Peter Boyle

Bruce R. McConkie and Senator Al Franken

Dallin H. Oaks and Kurtwood Smith

George Albert Smith and (the more handsome) Dr. Charlie Huenemann

Joseph Smith and Nikola Tesla

Hat-tip to the Salamander Society for a few of the ideas. If you have any LDS leader look-a-like suggestions, do share! Also, I hope no one was offended—it was all in good fun.

About Jon Adams

I have my bachelors in sociology and political science, having recently graduated from Utah State University. I co-founded SHAFT, but have also been active in the College Democrats and the Religious Studies Club. I was born in Utah to a loving LDS family. I left Mormonism in high school after discovering some disconcerting facts about its history. Like many ex-Mormons, I am now an agnostic atheist. I am amenable to being wrong, however. So should you disagree with me about religion (or anything, really), please challenge me. I welcome and enjoy a respectful debate. I love life, and am thankful for those things and people that make life worth loving: my family, my friends, my dogs, German rock, etc. Contact: [email protected]

  1. This reminds me of a time my wife and I were looking for an apartment once in Logan. A couple that was about to move out showed us their place. It seemed pretty normal at first, maybe a little mormony but that’s normal in Logan. But then we went into the bedroom. There, above the bed were 12 8×10 framed pictures of the current LDS quorum alongside a framed picture of the current prophet. Anyhow a bunch of old guys who look like they’re on their way out. It was pretty eerie and the way the couple talked about it just made it worse.

  2. I love the American Gothic comparison. It only gets truer as he gets older. Nice one, Jon :P
And maybe I’ll get look-alikes for all the apostles, etc. and hang them in my house just to see what people say.

    • Not bad. I was thinking this dog…

  3. I enjoyed this post.

Speaking of Henry B. Eyring, I have always thought his voiced resembled that of Charlton Heston… look alike, not so much… but sound alike? SPOT ON!

    • Ha ha, yeah, I almost did that comparison. But it has been noted before, and I wanted to find a look-a-like that I could claim as my own.
