Via Doves & Serpents.
For those who don’t get Joseph Smith, Sr.’s comment: Lucy Mack Smith wrote that, in 1811, her husband had a dream about a tree that bore delicious white fruit (symbolizing the love of God). Those who partook of the fruit were scorned by “finely dressed” people in a “spacious building” (symbolizing Babylon). Mormons will notice that this dream is nearly identical to Lehi’s Tree of Life vision. Lucy Mack Smith wrote her account after the publication of the Book of Mormon, however, and so her recollection of Joseph Smith, Sr.’s dream might have been influenced by the verbiage of Lehi’s story, thus exaggerating the similarities.
